Old Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote the Scarlet Letter. Is Mikalena Nau Philly's Scarlet Letter Missing Woman?
I noticed that someone wrote about the missing woman in the news here - but no one has said "boo" about it, or put it up on "Missing Monday". I sincerely hope that is not because folks are sitting in judgement of this woman's reported activities like prostitution.
Michelle "Mikalena" Nau is STILL a missing woman. If she isn't dead, she's in a mess of trouble. Funny how the media chooses to exploit poor life choices. In my humble opinion, this is still a person. A person who deserves to be found.
Here's what irked me today:
Darker side emerges in Phila. woman's disappearance
Michelle Nau claimed to be a real estate agent. But she told police she worked as a prostitute.

Michelle "Mikalena" Nau told people she worked in real estate and that might indeed have been her career goal.
But court records show that for years, even as Nau worked legitimately as a cosmetologist, a major source of her income was prostitution.
"I'm a prostitute," Nau told a Bensalem Township police detective on April 24, 1995, in an interview after she and an ex-boyfriend were arrested with cocaine at a Bensalem motel. Nau, then 26, also said she had been arrested for prostitution five years earlier in Philadelphia.
Philadelphia police confirmed yesterday that Nau, 37, had recently been working for a Queen Village escort service and that they were investigating whether her duties had anything to do with her disappearance. ... (full text)

Editorial Note
In trying to figure out what you were referring to, I noticed there are two comments made on Philly Future's December Missing Monday post about the Michele Nau post you referenced.
For the record, a post about Michele Nau is already referenced in our most current "Missing Monday" post -- so hopefully you'll understand that nobody was pulling the strings here to keep her story concealed.
Perhaps we should have edited the date into the title to clear up such confusion (especially for recurring posts like the Missing Monday series).
now all is clear
thanks howard...i only saw one post on this woman , so pardon the redundancy. HOWEVER my opinion of tradional media on this missing person's case stands
You'll get no argument from
You'll get no argument from me on that.
It seems people often lose their humanity the second they become a story.
missing woman
I wanted to have a Missing Monday post on her but she wasn't yet listed in the missing persons databases I use for photos, etc. Google wasn't showing anything under "Michelle Nau" except showing her name as a real estate agent. Usually postings include a photo and details. For those in a time crunch, tracking down variant spellings or nicknames and photos if they aren't readily available, isn't feasible. In my case, and probably in others as well, it wasn't a choice to exclude her, but simply an inability to find the information needed in a timely fashion. In previous concerted group pushs for one particular missing person, one or more people found photos and details and sent that information around or make it available in an easily found place in advance of posting. It is unfortunate that this is what it takes but, given the demands on time, this is exactly what it takes.
It appears...
...that people are misunderstanding this post...to our perspective this blogger is commenting on traditional media NOT the blogging community. This seems to be about how the TV and newspapers are focusing on the "soiled dove" aspect of this story. Chill people...we're on the same side here...
Michelle nau
I just found photo's of michelle today when i was going threw old photo's mentioned her name to my parents & showed them her pictures, & they informed me of this story.
I'm very sad right at this moment, for her & her family. My only wish right now is that we didn't lose touch as friends, she was a very dear person, w/ a very kind large heart, regardless of her profession. It easy to judge some one when honly hear bad things about them but to know some one is to know them, let's face it we all have some thing bad in our closets, but that doesn't describe the way we are as a person. GOB BLESS MICHELLE & her family.. I MISS HER KNOWING SHE IS GONE.
