Tit for Tat ....

More on my favorite topic of HE SAID/SHE SAID

Alrighty, last week I posted, unposted, then reposted Jim vs. Lois on ethics on his website http://www.jimgerlachforcongress.com/. I know all are shocked to learn that we are now treated to Lois vs. Jim ON HER website http://www.loismurphy.org/ . I was thrilled by the discussion on my post last week, and I hope this sparks additional debate. I still think what Lois "wrote" is supsect. If she did get some ideas from fellow democrats, the RIGHT thing is to acknowledge those ideas as being presented by others as well as herself. To me that was as bad as when Al Gore said he "invented" the Internet http://www.sethf.com/gore/ !

Why? Because if you live in the 6th Congressional District, you need to make an educated decision....and what I have been following further cements my personal belief that it is almost impossible to do so when the woman who would be congressperson continues to regurgitate the same old rhetoric that just sounds, well, bitchy.

Now perhaps I sound bitchy because I am a woman harping on this, but I have to tell you if I voted in the 6th congressional district right now I would be looking to see if that Mike Liebowitz is still planning to challenge Lois Murphy for the privilege of running against the incumbent candidate, Jim Gerlach, on the Democratic ticket. Here is a website for Mike: http://www.mikein06.com/

IF you look at Mike's website, he doesn't spend time on personal attacks...dude actually dishes issues. Maybe he is a better, more balanced, even candidate?

So here's what set off the PMS meter, and I say bull is bull. Read it and tell me what you all think. And further and to the point, is this Liebowitz guy in or out?

"Gerlach scrambles to play catch-up on ethics and lobbying reform

(Narberth, PA) - One day after his over-heated, over-the-top press release backfired, an analysis of Jim Gerlach’s record on ethics and lobbying reform shows that he is scrambling to catch up to Lois Murphy and other members of Congress.

“Jim Gerlach’s seen the writing on the wall and everything he’s doing right now indicates that he’s in full-scale panic mode,” said Murphy campaign spokesman Tony Heyl. “Jim Gerlach is a walking, talking advertisement for what’s wrong with ethics and lobbying in Washington. He knows it and he’s rushing to try and cover his tracks. Sixth District voters are smarter than he gives them credit for and the sooner they show him the door, the sooner we can get started cleaning up this ethics and lobbying mess.”"

Gerlach Says No to Ethics and Lobbying Reform
Tuesday, March 07, 2006

"Gerlach declines to sign ethics and lobbying reform pledge

(Narberth, PA) - With the passage of yesterday’s deadline for signing Lois Murphy’s Congressional Lobbying and Ethics Agenda for the Nation (CLEAN) House Pledge, Jim Gerlach has signaled he not interested in supporting ethics and lobbying reform.

“Jim Gerlach obviously does not take ethics and lobbying reform seriously and that’s part of the problem in Washington,” said Tony Heyl, spokesman for the Murphy campaign. “With recent scandals involving Tom DeLay, Jack Abramoff, and Duke Cunningham, now is the time for Gerlach to finally show some leadership. We need to clean up the pay-to-play scandals in DC. If Gerlach can’t do it, then Lois Murphy will step up and be an independent voice for change. Her CLEAN House pledge is a crucial step to restoring trust and integrity to Washington.”

Lois Murphy’s CLEAN House Pledge is the first step towards bringing honest and accountable leadership back to Congress. To date, Jim Gerlach has not signed onto any personal ethics pledge since first running for congress in 2002."

Finally, Lois comes up with really bad acronyms:

"As the deadline to sign Lois Murphy’s CLEAN House Pledge looms, “What Will Jim Gerlach Do?”

(Narberth, PA) – Today, Monday, March 6th, marks the deadline for Jim Gerlach to sign Lois Murphy’s Congressional Lobbying and Ethics Agenda for the Nation (CLEAN) House Pledge. Since receiving a copy of the pledge signed by Lois Murphy ten days ago, Sixth District voters have been waiting to find out what Gerlach would do. So far, Gerlach has refused to sign any ethics or lobbying reform pledge."

Parting shots from another PMS female: WWLMD? What Will Lois Murphy Do?

Oy vey! Lois, darling, how about some real issues??? You hate Jimmy, he stood you up for the prom http://www.phillyfuture.org/node/2509 , wouldn't sign your autograph book, WHATEVER http://www.phillyfuture.org/node/2856. Get over it already...give up the voodoo doll and talk about REAL issues. Voters want a campaign, not a rant...ranting is my job....only I am not running for congress (it's bad for the complexion).

And look what I also found, which makes me wonder is it only Lois's ethics pledge that Jim doesn't want to sign? Read this:

Moderates push for ethics office
Wilson and three of her House colleagues break ranks with the GOP leadership in the Senate.

Excerpt:
"WASHINGTON - The support of Rep. Heather Wilson and three other moderate House Republicans for an independent ethics office in Congress improves the chances for it being part of the final lobby reform bill, says a reform advocate.

Wilson, Pennsylvania Republicans Jim Gerlach and Phil English, and Chris Shays of Connecticut on Wednesday announced they would support an independent Office of Public Integrity to regulate lobbyists and investigate complaints against members of Congress and their staffs.

"This is delightful news," said Craig Holman, campaign reform lobbyist for Public Citizen, an advocacy group. "We now have moderate Republicans leading in the Senate and the House. That really vastly improves the chances we're going to get it in the final legislation." "

"PA-06 Lois Murphy Plagiarized Her Ethics Plan

I'm all about electing Democrats to office, but not with this nonsense. How do you run a candidate who plagiarized an ethics plan in a year centered on ethics? This is going to be open season from now to November on Lois Murphy. I guess we can cross Lois Murphy off the list.

This is what happens when you get trigger happy and lose your focus. Maybe its time to draft a new candidate.

**Ethics pledge muddies waters in local race **
By Kori Walter, Reading Eagle, 3/10/2006

Most politicians are running about a quart low on creativity.
That's why they pay an army of spin doctors and consultants to craft campaign themes and talking points.

So it was no surprise that Lois Murphy joined other Democrats in trying to capitalize on the Republicans' cozy relationship with disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Murphy is a Montgomery County attorney making her second bid to beat incumbent Chester County Republican Jim Gerlach in the 6th District. It's one of the top congressional races in the nation.

The district includes parts of Berks, including sections of Reading."

my head is hurting

Again, I call total, and absolute BULLSHIT on this whole thing.

What you are doing is feeding into the BS right wing frame where, in response to all their crap, there is always a balanced side.

So, Jack Abramoff donated exclusively to the GOP. So what. Being fair and balanced, we hear that Democrats got money from Abramoff clients. (True Story: Actually, before Abramoff was representing him, they got money from Indian Tribes. He then forced those clients to give less money to Democrats.)

So, George Bush lied about how his tax bill would benefit rich Americans. Being fair and balanced, Al Gore said he invented the internet (which you helpfully remind us of.) Of course, Al Gore NEVER SAID THAT, and who the hell cares? What did it have to do with anything? But, hey, so what, lets be fair and balanced.

And, our current case, where we have a Congressman with incredible ethical problems. And his opponent, in proposing a bill (which has, of course, zero intellectual property rights. This is a public policy not a dissertation.), used something from her fellow Democrat.

These things are not the same. My head is going to explode.

chill sister

Hello? I am entitled to my opinion. And my opinion is that this is ALL b.s., but needs to be exposed because it is demonstative of the types of stupid political campaigns Americans are subjected to (and pay for).

And as a WOMAN, I am sick and tired of the female political candidates who piss and moan and WHINE about their opposition, instead of getting together a good platform. This isn't the case of a congressman with ethical problems, it is a case of a woman with nothing substantive to say.

Political campaigns should NOT just be about why you hate your opponent, and if that is to be your political platform as a candidate, then you leave yourself wide open to commentary from the public.

And I AM a member of the public, and I AM entitled to portray MY opinion how I see fit.

You don't like my post, and that is fine with me, I can sleep at night just fine.

6th district? That's US!

LOL, nothing gets people more worked up than a new election season, does it?

Nevertheless, whatever your position may be, dialogue like this IS good! Why? Because it makes people examine WHY they vote and WHO they choose...and that helps people make educated, informed choices in political representation. No matter whom you choose, the fact that people are thinking about upcoming elections is positive.

We are of course, interested in learning more about 2006 candidates.
