In a thought provoking piece, one that helps me focus on where Philly Future is lacking, Christopher Anderson compares various local online media, including Philebrity, Philly.com, Citizen Mom, Beerleaguer, Philly IMC, Young Philly Politics, and Mere Cat. It's a a great read. Various new media is not as open as you'd think, and Philly.com still has a ways to go.

Funny that I stumbled across this from a "blog" that isn't
Given its status as a sort of free-for-all Philly version of The McLaughlin Group, only without a John McLaughlin to shout "Wrong!" in response to everyone else's comments, I'm surprised that the "blog that isn't" -- Phillyblog.com -- doesn't factor into this bit of research. Of course, it's a discussion board, not a news source, but it seems to have acquired the cachet of the latter thanks in part to the many people in the media who lurk on the site. Certainly the state representative who posts regularly got his views on a hot topic in the news amplified -- and in all likelihood in the pages of the Inquirer -- thanks to his launching a discussion on his views on Phillyblog.
Might public discussion boards be the "open new media" we've all been looking for?
