Media Mobilizing Project recently started a new initiative: Community Journalism in Times of Economic Crisis. The initiative is a response to both the economic crisis, which is hitting Philadelphians hard, and the growing problems with the for-profit journalism model, which is making it difficult for local newspapers to cover stories about the struggles of everyday people during the economic downturn. The goal of this project is to report on and collect the real stories of Philadelphia and beyond on MMP's community blog, so we can begin to get a picture of the economic crisis from the ground up. Good Idea for journalists
It's real sad that most of the major newspapers are on the way out. I've noticed more journalists are focusing on blogging for themselves. I don't trust 100% of the information put on a blog because that model is focused on getting as much information as you can out, not the truth from the story.

I have long believed that
I have long believed that the old major newspapers need to adapt quickly or continue to lose readership. Print is dying, and basic business economics suggest that they should find ways of leveraging new digital media, by delivering new products and services for the age of the Internet. It's interesting to note how a "grass-root" movement of bloggers seem to understand this so clearly.
