DOO WOP IS NOT DEAD.

Having grown up listening to the great radio stations that served Philly, New Jersey and Delaware, ie, WFIL, WIBG, WDAS and WHAT, It is really sad to listen to what radio has become. The corporatization of radio has destroyed what I once loved. The 1950's early 60's genre of Doo wop, r&b vocal groups, acappella and rock n roll has just about been eliminated from radio. except the small independent stations and the DJ's that broker their airtime. The corporate whores tell us that "Doo wop is dead" "The people that listen to it are dying off". Bull----.Doo wop concerts are constantly selling out.Look at the PBS specials, ALWAYS SOLD OUT.CD compellations are constantly selling. As a matter of fact, r&b vocal groups are the 45's that are most in damand. people pay anywhere from hundreds to thousands of dollars a piece. The reason corporate radio removed this genre is because of this: the people with the most disposable income are people in their late teens, early twenties. they are still living with their parents. they don't have to worry about paying rent, a mortgage, gas, electric, phone, food etc. so the money they do have, they spend on many CD's, the $90.00 to $120.00 pair of sneakers, jeans etc. The people that listen to Doo wop are overwhelmingly in their late 40's and up in their 60's.they have families, and all the responsibilities that go with it.some are retired, living on fixed incomes. sure, they spend, but not to the extent of the teens.so who do you think corporate radio is going to pander to? the younger crowd. and by doing so, they get the businesses whose products are also geared toward the younger crowd. They pay the big bucks to advertise on the station that plays the music of that age range. And don't get me started on the connection between corporate radio and the corporate record labels which is why it's so easy for this crap, ie hip hop and rap to get airplay. If you want to hear great DJ's playing great music log onto www.rockitradio.net listen to the Doo wop vault and all the other great shows on the rockit. And don't forget, in two months, If you live in south philly, WSPR 1710 AM WILL BE ON THE AIR.

South Philly Woman Missing...Need Your Help!!!

We need your help. Bonnie Nardini,a South Philly resident, suffers with bi-polar disorder and she went missing in Center City Philadelphia Tuesday morning without a trace. She has no money and no meds which means we’re now in crisis mode. The police were contacted yesterday and are asking for citizens’ help. We have contacted all of the area hospitals in Philadelphia and the morgue and there has been no sign of Bonnie.

The story is running on NBC 10 and KYW1060. The other local news stations have been contacted and we’re hoping that they will help us too. There is a photo of Bonnie on the Web link above.

If she has just wondered off, she’s likely to be found in Center City, South Philly or South Jersey. However, since we have no idea where she could be or what happened to her, we’re asking that you please spread the word.

She was last seen in the vicinity of 11th and Spruce Streets in Philadelphia on Tuesday, May 27th at 9:30 AM wearing a white button-down shirt and beige Capri-pants. Bonnie is approximately 5’1” tall, weighs about 105-110 lbs, has blonde hair which was recently cut very short and blue eyes.

Ann Dicker has been exposed for the Fraud that she is!

Why did Dougherty's media consultants tell Ann Dicker to stay in the race? Anyone with half a brain knew it was to hurt Farness. Why is Dicker consulting with Dougherty's media consultants anyway? Isn't corruption something she is sworn to oppose? No one is more corrupt than John Dougherty! It was obvious that Ann Dicker was in bed with the Dougherty campaign. I am so happy that she was exposed for the fraud that she is and I hope this is the last we hear of that "Has Been" Ann Dicker let me rephrase the correct term is probably that "Never Was" Ann Dicker!

Student Loan Consolidation Program

Student Loans can sometimes be a tough thing to handle when you get around to it. When a student loan rates themselves can continue on being a ever growing problem for many students out there. If you end up defaulting on a student loan it could mean disaster for your credit score as a young person who is starting out building up there credit profile.

Debt Consolidation

So what might be student loan consolidation and how can it help you? Well loan consolidation for your student loan can help you by avoiding defaulting your loan as well as allowing you to make your monthly payments to the loan a lot more manageable for yourself. Just about every type of loan you can take out as a student can be allowed to be consolidated according to the higher education act. This goes for those students that are in undergraduate or even graduate school programs, as they all are able to qualify for them. There are quite a few different examples available for this.

These programs make student loan consolidation quite easier by allowing you to combine a lot of different types of federal education student loans even if they have different terms and conditions or payment schemes as well as if they need to be paid to different lending institutions. It all gets consolidated into one lower interest loan that makes things a lot easier to manage and budget for. Additionally, the amount that you are required to pay is typically lower than you normally would be and as a result the payment cycle is extended to account for these lower payments. These things are put in place to allow for you to make things a lot easier on yourself in order to not have to worry about defaulting on your loans and as a result screwing up your credit for many years in the future.

Just about any single person that has a student loan can benefit from having to consolidate it. You really should think about it especially if your monthly payments are becoming too much of a burden for yourself. If you are close to defaulting on your loan because you are having trouble with making your monthly payments then student loan consolidation needs to seriously be considered. There are a lot of different research tools online that include calculators that can help you figure out exactly what your new payments would be with the various programs that are available. This will help you figure out if it's perfect for you. You could have a lot of different payments that are needing to be paid to many different lenders. If you want to find yourself a simple way of managing these multiple payments to these different lenders each month then again student loan consolidation can be a great solution for you to only have to make one lump sump payment each month that will in turn be disbursed to each of your outstanding lenders and their loans.

If you happen to also have a variable rate interest student loan the interest rate for the typical student loan consolidation program is fixed for the duration of the loan itself. This can make it a lot more manageable for you knowing exactly what will have to be paid for the duration of the student loan consolidation. These rates are easily calculated by using the weighted averages of interest rate loans are similar.

There are several ways of going about getting yourself a student loan consolidation. You can get a free one through the united states department of education by simply applying for it. Although if you are serious about it you would be best off going with a professional lender that specializes in these types of student consolidation loans. They can quickly figure out your situation and come up with the absolutely best consolidation loan that will work perfectly for you and your financial situation. As with any product or service, it is best to seek out the knowledge from multiple lenders in order to find the best fit for you. It will help you in the long run in many more ways then one and will allow you to save yourself from falling into the trap of defaulting your loans and ending up with a poor credit mark on your credit profile.

green tea

Four different types of tea (white, green, oolong and black) come from the same source: The leaves of the plant Camellia sinensis. ( "Herbal" tea or herbal tea is not true, as a tea, because it contains no leaves of Camellia sinensis, and is more likely derived from the dried flowers, stems, leaves and berries, which many other plants.)

What distinguishes the four types of tea is true, as the leaves are between the time at which they are picked, and the time when they are packed:

White tea is the product mainly in the leaves of the tea buds. Because there is so little treats, it also will be possible mighty fight against the disease. So far, however, there is relatively little research on the effects on health.

To green tea, the leaves are harvested and stored (usually in the steam and bicarbonate), in order to prevent the process of fermentation (oxidation).

To oolong and black tea, the leaves are harvested and in the air during a specific period. During the fermentation. The oolong tea is exposed to the sun, and the partially ferment, black tea is fully fermented.

The fermentation process slightlychanges mainly by the chemical composition of the tea. The leaves are used to fermentation, the weak, tea Natural History in the file on the fight against cancer, while the caffeine content of tea leaves, growing steadily.

Approx. Green tea has half to one third thecaffeine of black tea.

EGCG is the active component of green tea, and it is a stronger antioxidant than vitamin C or E. For this reason it is so intense green tea.
Green tea of data: A selection of the scientific literature

While in the People's Republic of China and Japan, green tea is a staple food of the diet, particularly among the older generation. Epidemiological studies (especially in the Asian population) have always associated with the consumption of green tea with lower impact of various types of cancer.

A study from 1989 in the Journal of Nutrition Japanese that in the tea-growing areas in Japan (where the residents use the green tea in various forms, including gum, sweets and desserts) cancer, stomach mortality rate is lower than in the other regions in Japan.
One of the first studies to suggest a protective effect of green tea, published in the journal Cancer Research 1994. The authors of the study found that the rate of lung cancer in smokers Japanese were half of the smokers in America, and postulated that this difference was probably due to the differences in the consumption of tea between the two populations.

In a case-control study conducted by the Institute for Cancer-Shanghai, China, published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute 1994, the green tea drinkers have a stake of 50 percent to reduce the risk of cancer - the esophagus.

Green tea appears to disrupt the process of stomach cancer in another Chinese case-control study. A reduction of 50 1995.

1997, a case-control study among men in Shanghai found that the regular consumption of green tea will be assigned important (between 12 and 53 percent) of the cuts risk for cancer of the colon, rectum and pancreas. The study was published in the International Journal of Cancer.

A landscape Japanese cohort of 8552 1997 has shown that green tea has a protective effect against cancer in all fora, including the stomach, lung, colorectum And in the liver. This effect was more pronounced in women drink 10 cups of green tea per day. (Note: A typical Japanese teacup holds 4 fluid ounces or 120 ml of tea, a typical American teacup holds 6 fluid ounces, or about 180 ml of tea.)

A Japanese study in 1998 in Cancer Causes Control, the consumption of seven or more cups of green tea per day reduces the risk of gastric cancer by 31 percent.

A study of 1998 on the Phase I and Phase II breast cancer in Japan has shown that the issues that drank more than five cups of green tea per day had a lower dropout rates, and without a long-term illness, the subjects who drank less than or four cups per day. This study, in which it was also shown that the consumption of green tea has no effect on the return of Phase III breast cancer, was in the Japanese newspaper for cancer research.

In 1999, a study of the Phase I / Phase II study, we found that people who drank green tea in the short-term reduction in the level of specific lipids (prostaglandin E2), the suspects, a factor that role in the development of the Rektumkarzinoms in the tissues. The study was published in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention.

A study of 1160 patients with breast cancer, we found that the consumption of three or more than three cups of green tea per day, together with the significant reduction in the phase I of recurrence of breast cancer after seven years. The effects of consuming tea recurrence of Phase II was smaller. The study was published in the journal Cancer Letters 2001.

Iowa Women's Health Study cohort of 34651 women after menopause has examined 12 years and has come to the conclusion that the provision of catéchines tea with lower risks to the rectum. This appeared in the journal Cancer Causes Control 2002.

A case-control study conducted at the US-Asian women in the county of Los Angeles was of the view that the green tea drinkers showed a significant reduction in the risk of breast cancer, is dose-dependent. Those who drank more of 85.7 ml (about 3 ounces liquids or  ½ an American teacup) per day showed 47 percent lower risk of developing breast cancer than non-tea drinkers green. The study was in the "International Journal of Cancer 2003.

A case-control study conducted in southern China has shown that the risk for prostate cancer were regularly in the position, quantity, frequency and duration of green tea consumption increased. The study was in the "International Journal of Cancer 2004.

A case-control study conducted Taixing, China, and in the April 2005 issue of the International Journal of Cancer, found that regular consumption of green tea was associated with a reduction of 41 percent of the risk of gastric cancer.

In a study carried out in the May 2005 issue of Carcinogenesis, the inclusion of green tea was 13 percent more low estrogen circulating assets among a small group of women with postmenopausal Chinese. In the same group, the consumption of black tea is the amount of circulating estrogen were 19 percent higher than non-tea drinkers. (Increase in blood sex hormones such as estrogen, apparently in connection with an increased risk for certain types of cancer.)

A meta-analysis published in June 2005 in the journal Integrative Cancer Therapies reviewed the epidemiological data on green tea and breast cancer and came to the conclusion that on this day, the consumption of 5 or more cups of green tea per day shows statistically A trend not significant prevention of breast cancer. The evidence also shows that consumption of green tea may help prevent a recurrence of stage I and stage II breast cancer.

Currently, several NIH funded clinical trials are currently available for the study of green tea (and some extracts from green tea) tests for safety and effectiveness in humans. The tests are the primary prevention, cancer and the repeated threat integrative cancer therapy (combination of green tea with drugs against cancer.)

The laboratory or experimental evidence from the green tea in general (and in particular EGCG) in the cancer prevention is considerable, and more and more. Many potential biological mechanisms are currently being investigated. A database search of published scientific literature has shown that more than 100 scientific articles on the EGCG against cancer services were in the year 2005 be reviewed.

Nuggets Burn Heat in Overtime

“I know it’s been a tough year,' wow gold said, as he thanked fans for helping vote him onto the Eastern Conference All-Star team. “But it won’t last forever.'’

It only seems that way.

J.R. Smith made a career-best eight 3-pointers and scored 28 points, Kenyon Martin added 24, and the Denver Nuggets edged the Miami Heat 114-113 in overtime Tuesday night — sending the 2006 NBA champions to their 23rd loss in 24 games.

Carmelo Anthony scored six of his 22 points in overtime for Denver.

“We finished the game out,'’ Anthony said. “That’s what matters.'’

Wade had game-highs of 29 points and 10 assists, power leveling but missed a 22-footer at the buzzer for the Heat, who led by 14 in the first half before seeing it slip away.

“It would have been fun,'’ Heat coach Pat Riley said. “But it didn’t go in.'’

Wade dove over the first row of seats in a futile effort to grab a loose ball late in overtime, but he came up just short — a harbinger of what awaited Miami.

On that possession, Anthony Carter made two wow power leveling?free throws, putting the Nuggets up by two with 1:26 left. Anthony added two more free throws with 54.1 seconds to play, before Ricky Davis’ 3-pointer with 33.6 seconds left got Miami within a point.

Anthony missed with about 10 seconds remaining, logo design Miami controlled the rebound and Wade dribbled up the left side of the floor to one of his favorite spots — with Riley not electing to call time-out.

But the shot rimmed out, and Miami left disappointed once again.

Comic Energy's going back to the 80's with this comedy show!

Comic Energy, the winner of MyFoxPhilly Hot List for #1 Comedy Club in Philadelphia continues their awesome 8th season in Philly on January 26th with their most exciting production to date.

The troupe is going back to the 80's in 100 percent 80's fashion. The show which runs an hour and a half is total nostalgic from the costumes of the cast to the sketch parodies which range from Night Court to Golden Girls.

Phillies v Rockies: Game 1 Fans

sickI went down to watch the fans down at Citizens Bank Park as the Rockies came to town to take on the hometown Phillies. Philly has some of the craziest fans in the country and I was wandering through them for about 90 minutes.

As you can see by the photo above, fans made all kinds of excuses to make it down for the 3p game. Unfortunately, the Phills didn't come out on top. But tomorrow, at 3p again, is another game. Let's see if the Phillies can bring a nice parade down Broad Street. This city needs it.

What did you think of the game? Were you there? Where'd you sit? What's going to happen in Game 2?

PBS Plasters Posters on Private Property

I noticed these posters popping up around the city on my way to work on Thursday morning. I've always hated this form of advertising and was surprised that PBS would stoop to this.

I sent off a slew of emails to politicians, candidates anrd the media, but I haven't heard a thing outside of an automated response from PBS.org. Frustrated,
I decided to grab my video camera and share it with the viewers at youtube.

Take a LOOK:

Under the Chalk

I am so very behind the times when I need Rolling Stone to tell me that a tune from PJ Harvey's forthcoming piano-based record Under The Chalk has leaked onto the internet a month ago.

What the hell?

Luckily, the internet forgives and provides. Check out a rather transfixing performance of "When Under Ether" on YouTube or stream the leaked track at CK, and then head to Philly-based mp3 blog Some Velvet Blog to check out the cover and tracklist of Chalk.

I really like it. I'm looking forward to the huge number of Tori comparisons her record draws, as if PJ is suddenly a pianist - the entire point of her is that every album is completely different.

(Also discovered in my mad PJ hunt - The Yellow Stereo. Very good music writing, and taste.)

Great Expectations: Nutter and Taubenberger Potluck

great expectations nutter taubenberger
It was Wednesday night and what better thing did I have to do than to head to a potluck dinner with 2007 Philadelphia mayoral candidates Al Taubenberger (R) and Michael Nutter (D)? Pictured above are eight of the ten Philadelphians who made it out for the potluck dinner/discussion with the candidates at the center of the shot. But how did we all get to this South Philly home for the dinner? Let's back up a sec.

Great Expectations is a joint venture between the Inquirer and the UPenn Project on Civic Engagement; the full project description here. After the primaries back in May, then editorial page editor Chris Satullo ran into Democratic primary winner Nutter at a restaurant. Nutter brought up the idea of a series of get-to-know-you dinners in neighborhoods all around Philly. Great idea, but one condition, Satullo said, Taubenberger's gotta be there too. And thus the potluck dinners were born. How'd I end up in the fray? Well, you write 3,100 posts over the course of three or so years, you piss some people off, you make some people happy and maybe, just maybe, you get noticed by someone with some juice and maybe, just maybe, those someones have someone send you an email asking you to trot down to South Philly with your gear and have some free grub. Who could say no? Back to the dinner. Satullo segued into South Philly by quoting colleague and Philadelphia legend, and South Philly native, Acel Moore, that there are two kinds of people: those from South Philly and those who wish they were from South Philly. Since I don't wish I was from South Philly, I guess I'm from South Philly. Go figure, I thought I was from NY -- I learn something new from the Inky almost every day.

Canvas Clash

It just gets better and better! We were lucky again to have a beautiful day for the July 7th Canvas Clash, and the turn-out this time was double what it was in June. We had Dave Mass, John Fitzpatrick, and Dewey Saunders composing a green roof theme on a 10′ x 4′ canvas, and Bob, Nose, and Toro were getting down on two steel tanks. Big thanks to all of our sponsors, and to all the nice newspaper write-ups we got.

Don’t miss the final Canvas Clash this Saturday, August 4th - we have Leon Rainbow, Kasso, Vorcan, Todd Marrone, and SAGAMOOR painting, a whole bunch of new art vendors, and FREE burgers and hot dogs from Flexcar! With the help of Mural Arts Program, Pose2 will be there, starting a mural on the back wall where the canvas was in July. So, gather some friends and come check out the art, grab some food, and maybe even some sun!
