Baltimore Ave mommy meet up is embarking on its second meeting. Please join us on June 28, 2008, at noon in Clark Park. This is yet another incentive for moms in the area to come to the park. Every Saturday Clark Park host a farmer's market and every month a fleamarket. So grab the kids, stock up on fresh produce, and stop by the mommy meet up. See you then.
ABOUT THE GROUP:
Meet mothers from the West Philadelphia and University City area who frequent or live nearby Baltimore Ave. With the avenues rich diversity and welcoming atmosphere, I find it fitting to create a mommy meet up here. I envision this group tailoring to moms who want to utilize Clark Park as an outside meeting place and a safe place for our children to play. This meet up is particularly for mothers who are interested in becoming educated consumers and long to green our lives and our children. Our future will depend on our relationship with the environment. Do we protect it and respect it? Now more than ever, global warming and climate change are receiving a lot of media attention and we are being taught different techniques to reduce our carbon emission but what does that mean for mothers. It doesn't have to be overwhelming and we can't expect to be able to do everything but every little bit helps. So, what can we, as mothers, do? And how does what we do now impact our children's future? I hope this organization will give you better insight into how the safety and health of our children are tied to the environment.

Yes, loved by some and hated by others, tomorrow is 4/1, April 1st, known around the world (or at least the Internet) as April Fool's Day, and odds are that you'll have a lot of fools trying to play with your head. As you probably know, our friends at Blizzard love April Fool's, so you can probably expect to see some shenanigans from them tomorrow.
Just to get you ready, here's a quick roundup of what they've done in the past few years. It seems like they've been upping the ante for a while now, so be "prepared": you never know what we might hear from them tomorrow.
2004: Blizzard announced that two-headed Ogres would become a playable race... playable by two players, that is. Not many people fell for this one -- MMOs are all about being social, but playing a character with another player? A little too wacky to be legit.
Lots more after the break, including the chaos that went down last year (Tinfoil Hats, anyone?) in the Warcraft community.
2005: Pandaren Xpress. This was the real beginning of Blizzard's silliness -- Sony had just recently announced a (real!) deal with Everquest and Pizza Hut, so the announcement by Blizzard that they'd made the same deal with a Chinese food chain sounded legit to many news outlets (including Slashdot), and got quite a bit of coverage for a joke. Blizzard must have smelled blood in the water, because after this, April Fool's Day was never the same for them.
2006: The first year that others picked up on Blizzard's jokes and started kicking off their own. The official joke was about Wisps as a playable race -- everyone was wondering just who the Alliance race was in the Burning Crusade (later revealed as the Draenei), and a lot of people bought the "Detonate" racial ability, though the "permanent death" feature was really the giveaway here. But the official joke wasn't the only one: Blizzard as a company gave some official credence to the BurgerCraft rumors, and Caydiem posted those (still brilliant) fake patch notes for the upcoming patch 1.11. And thanks to Gamespot, rumors of a "World of Starcraft" (along with a "leaked screenshot") also swirled around.
2007: And last year things went even further over the top. Blizzard announced a "new" RTS called Warcraft: Heroes of Azeroth ("WHOA," for short) "based in the WoW Universe," which was really the old Warcraft RTSes made to look like a WoW tie-in. The forums went a little nuts with "Blue for a Day," as every poster but the CMs got to go blue, also resulting in Tseric's classic "lol wut" remark (and making a few people unhappy). Unofficially, WoWWiki got turned into MeowWiki, Wowhead got sold to Blizzard (providing a weird foreshadowing for later that year), and a number of other Warcraft-related jokes flew around. But the big one was, of course, the Tinfoil Hat -- with the release of the Armory earlier in the year, lots of players were concerned that their gear choices were being shown off, so Blizzard released an engineering item that would supposedly keep your character out of the Armory (as well as dropping Intellect by 10 and preventing mind control... or maybe not). And they also poked fun at all of their attunements, with a hopelessly complicated attunement chart.
What's Blizzard got planned for this year? We haven't heard yet, and they haven't said. But whatever it is, if you're the gullible type, you might want to stay off the Internets tomorrow. Blizzard has a long tradition of pulling our legs right out of their sockets on April 1st. Get those grains of salt (and, please, that sense of humor) ready.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
THE ASSOCIATION FOR DIVERSITY IN MOTORSPORTS KICKS OFF
“DRIVING THE VOTE, BRIDGING THE GAP”
Association For Diversity in Motorsports promotes educating the youth in achieving professional opportunities in Motorsports.
(Greensboro, NC) -- The Association For Diversity In Motorsports (AFDIM) and Infinity Business Affiliates INC., will be traveling throughout the country to various Motorsports and political venues, registering new voters and educating various groups about the business/career opportunities and family entertainment found in Motorsports.
This 2008 “Driving The Vote, Bridging The Gap” voter awareness drive gives AFDIM, with the assistance of strategic Corporate sponsors, the chance to make Motorsports fans a “voice to be heard” on social issues as well as expands the opportunity to become Professionals in Motorsports, for a more diverse community of youth. In the media, we always hear about the “Soccer mom”. AFDIM and its partners now believe, it’s time for the “Motorsports Mom and Dad” to have a voice.
We will have “Driving The Vote, Bridging The Gap” booths at various Motorsports sponsored races. Also, as we travel across the country, we will have representatives from local/national civic and political groups, celebrities, corporations and media outlets appear in support of our drive. From NASCAR to Drifting, “We will be voters encouraging new voters to register until the deadline for the 2008 Presidential election. After the voter registration deadline we will be reminding people to vote in November”, said Wayne Clapp, Executive Director of AFDIM.
The “Driving The Vote, Bridging The Gap” voter registrations drive will not stop after the November 2008 Presidential election. This database of new politically active Motorsports fans and other individuals that pledge their support will be followed-up with electronically or by mail with our monthly newsletter highlighting racing news and whatever social issues our readers say are the most important to them. We will then inform the rest of the community on the issues of importance and how, together, we can lend our voice or letters to effect change.
Throughout the year we will be fundraising through concerts and fun entertainment racing events in order to lend a hand to our racing community. Through this effort we hope to bring the existing Motorsports family together and bring new Motorsports fans into our community; all the while, making sure that every voice is accounted for and heard.
We reach out to our corporate community for sponsorship and donations, for information in how to donate funds to our cause or to receive information on how to become a sponsors at one of many events that we will a part of such as Formula Drift, NASCAR, Indy cart, Formula 1, etc… Contact David Resendes, Director of Marketing, Executive Board of Directors AFDIM at info@one2infiniti.com.
The racing community consists of all types and varieties of individuals and corporations making up the fabric of the United States, yet when it comes to social issues, we are left behind. “It is now time to Bridge the Gap in Motorsports”, said Dave Resendes, President of Infinity Business Affiliates, INC.
